Joel Bauman

Joel grew up in Ohio then moved to South Carolina in 2016 to attend a local college. He majored in Biblical studies and hopes to become a pastor one day. His junior year, Joel met his wife Charis. A few months later Charis graduated and accepted a teaching position at Wren Middle School. They got engaged in November of Joel’s senior year and married in the summer of 2019. After moving to the area, they sought out a church that ministered to and served in the Wren community. After visiting CBC, they felt God calling them to join this local fellowship of believers.

Joel and Charis love living in this area. They enjoy creating new friendships in the community and within the church. Since coming to CBC, they have gotten involved in the youth group and have loved building relationships with our students. They decided to put down some roots in the area when they bought their first home that they enjoyed remodeling together.

In addition to his work at the church, Joel has his own landscaping business. He is thankful for a flexible job that allows him to intern at the church and to pursue his master’s degree in Biblical Studies. Joel’s life goal is to grow in his love for God and humbly share the hope of the Gospel that Jesus saves sinners.

In his free time, Joel enjoys sports and outdoor activities. It would not be unusual for you to see Charis and Joel taking an evening stroll around Wren or other close-by neighborhoods! Despite intense persecution in the Upstate, Joel is a big Ohio State fan and an unapologetic Cleveland sports fan. Joel and Charis are both big foodies; they enjoy cooking together and exploring new cuisine. They also enjoy traveling when given the opportunity and opening their home to locals and travelers alike!
